The summer of 1970 was when a bunch of businessmen decided that they wanted to form an important football team in the French capital. Guy Crescent and Pierre-Etienne Guyot chose to merge their newly formed side, Paris Football Club, with Stade Saint-Germain of Henri Patrelle after the team from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 15km west of Paris, were promoted to Ligue 2. Real Madrid played a big influence in the creation of Paris Saint-Germain. Three men were unable to come up in the dilemma of financial viability of the idea until they had a meeting with President of the Real club Santiago Bernabeu.

Bernabeu said to them that beginning an online campaign was the most effective way for establishing an entirely new team. After an online petition signed by more than 20,000 individuals, Paris Saint-Germain Football Club was officially founded on August 12, 1970. The first time ever that has happened in French the history of football, supporters had contributed financially to the formation of an football club. The capital club that was formed had large fan bases due to the merger, and also benefited greatly from a reformed squad. The team was led by Jean Djorkaeff, the club's first superstar, PSG was promoted into Division 1 and won its 1970-1971 French Division 2 title in the debut season. After a tense financial position that was exacerbated by it was the Paris City Council offered to pay off the club's debts and then demanded to change their name to a new, more Parisian namesake which was "Paris Football Club." Following PSG the president Henri Patrelle refused the name change, and the financial support was cut off The club disbanded in 1972. Paris FC remained in the highest tier, but PSG were relegated administratively to Division 3.

PSG was launched after the fashion creator Daniel Hechter took over. In the days before the start of the 1973-74 campaign Hechter replaced Henri Patrelle as president and appointed Francis Borelli as vice-president. In addition to providing financial support towards the football club Hechter created PSG's iconic home team. After two promotions with French legendary Just Fontaine, Paris Saint-Germain quickly returned to the top division in 1974. Ironically, it happened in the same year that Paris FC slipped into the division below and moved to the Parc des Princes, which was until then been the home of PFC. Since the time, PSG have never abandoned the top tier of French football, nor the Parc. Prior to this, PSG had been playing at several venues, such as that of the Stade Municipal Georges Lefevre, the Stade Jean-Bouin and Stade Jean-Bouin, Stade Bauer, and even the Parc of Princes a few times during the season, despite the resistance of PFC.

As chaired by Daniel Hechter, the Parisians were not able to collect any silverware during the 1970s but started their tradition of spectacular Coupe de France runs, and established themselves as a top-half division 1 team, and attracted a number of famous players, such as Jean-Pierre Doliani, Mustapha Dahleb, and Carlos Bianchi. Following Hechter was barred for life from playing football from the French Football Federation in January 1978 for allegedly running an unsavory scheme that involved the sale of tickets at Parc Des Princes Francis Borelli, who was vice-president prior to that was named the new manager at the Ile-de-France club. The trophy cabinet of the club welcomed their first silverware major trophy with the help of stars like Joel Bats, Dominique Bathenay, Safet Susic and Dominique Rocheteau together with PSG Academy graduate Luis Fernandez who led the capital team into two straight French Cup titles in 1982 and 1983. These wins led to opening Paris the way to Europe and included their stunning European debut at the Champions' European Cup Cup that saw them progress to the quarterfinals in the tournament. PSG had its first league title in the year 1986. The team was led by Susic Joel Bats, Luis Fernandez and Dominique Rocheteau and Luis Fernandez, the Red and Blues dominated the championship from beginning to end with a remarkable 26 games without losing to win the championship.

The sequel to the league title wasn't as spectacular, despite the fact that it was. PSG placed eighth in the 1987-87 French Division 1 and their first UEFA Champions League appearance that season was a complete disaster. They were eliminated by the minnows Vitkovice in the opening stage of 1986-87's European Cup. The next one, PSG avoided relegation on the final game of the 1987-88 season with an impressive 4-1 victory over Lens on the Parc of Princes. Indebted to the club, PSG had a brief respite and fought for the title of 1988-89 alongside Marseille before slipping to decline.
